Essential oils are the natural plant extracts that are found in plant leaves,
flowers, stems, etc. Visualize the making of a delicious spaghetti sauce.
What herb spices do you put into the sauce for flavor? Basil, marjoram, oregano?
From the spice cabinet, you are placing dried herbs for flavor. What happens to
the spaghetti sauce if you chop fresh basil from the garden? The flavor is enhanced,
correct?
Also, how about nutritionally?
Are there nutritional properties in live plants that are valuable?
Of course. It is common knowledge that live food is your best choice nutritionally.
Essential oils are the lifeblood of the plant. A drop or two can produce significant
nutritional results which it uses for the body to support, heal, or balance.
Your skin is your largest organ.
Now think of the things you put on your skin. Your skin is your largest organ.
EVERYTHING you put on your skin is absorbed into your system. Think of the medicine
patches you now buy at your pharmacy. Stick them on your skin and the medicine is
absorbed. The same is true with essential oils. They are nutritional plant properties
(even antioxidant power) that can be absorbed through the skin, diffused in the air,
or in some cases taken internally. We do know that essential oils have the highest
ORAC scores of any substance in the world. The oxygen radical absorbance capacity
(ORAC) scale measures the antioxidant powers of foods and other substances.
The chart below provides a basic idea of the different areas of the body
where some specific Young Living oils may be applied to the body.
When starting out with essential oils applied to your skin, it is best to mix them with
Young Living's V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or any other pure vegetable oil,
which is considered a "carrier oil."
Typically, mixing 3-6 drops of essential oil with 1-2 tablespoons of V-6.
Using a carrier oil also helps the essential oils spread more evenly.
The oil mixture can then be gently massaged into the skin.
Massage
By adding essential oils to your massage oil (We recommend V-6 Vegetable Mixing Oil)
base you recieve the best of an aromatherapy treatment. The skin is touched,
circulation is increased, and the essential oils are absorbed and inhaled.
For massage, virtually all single oils and blends may be used.
They all may be mixed with V-6 Mixing Oil.
Use Raindrop Therapy oils.
Use premixed massage oils, such as Ortho Sport.
Perfume
Essential oils are the perfect alternative to synthetic fragrances
without all the harsh chemicals that are usually tested on animals.
Essential oils are pure and natural and by using a carrier oil you may
apply directly to the skin and reap the therapeutic benefits along with the fragrance.
Bath
One of the most delightful ways of experiencing an aromatherapy treatment is in the bath!
I like adding 5-10 drops to the water just before getting in. Also, mix with Bath Gel Base as a dispersing agent. Relax while inhaling and absorbing the aromatic essential oils.
Inhalation
Simple -Carry your precious vial with you EVERYWHERE and open-up and whiff.
Skin Care
Essential oils are very beneficial for the skin as they are easily penetrated into the skin tissue helping and encouraging healthy cell developement. Add essential oils to a natural cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc. to promote a healthy complexion.
The best place to begin is with a few oils that have a wide range of applications. This gives you a chance to experiment without having to spend a lot of money.
The Essential 7 kit is a perfect way to do this.
Cautions
Avoid putting oils into eyes or ears.
Avoid using citrus oils, such as lemon, bergamot, tangerine, grapefruit and orange, when expeosed to direct sunlight.
Avoid mixing blends as this may reduce effectiveness.
Keep oils out of reach of small children.
Keep oils away from direct sunlight and high heat.
Discontinue using an oil if redness or irritation occurs.
If you are pregnant or under a doctor's care,
consult your physician before using the oils.
Here's how D. Gary Young puts it:
"As people become acquainted with essential oils, they always
say that there are so many oils and oil products that they don't
know where to start. So I put together what I call the
Essential 7,
which is a great way for anyone to begin to use and understand
the oils. All seven oils can be diffused, worn as perfume, applied
to the Vita Flex points on the feet, added to bath water, applied
on location or used with body and foot massage."
